Construction begins on $22M LaunchPad Golf development at Fremantle Public Golf Course

Fremantle Public Golf Course is set for a major transformation, with construction now underway on the $22 million LaunchPad Golf Fremantle project, designed to create a more accessible, social and year-round destination for the local community.

A sod turning ceremony held on Thursday 23 April, marked the official start of the development, with the Mayor of the City of Fremantle and project partners on site to celebrate the milestone.

The new multi-level venue will combine interactive driving range technology with food, beverage and hospitality, broadening the appeal of the venue beyond traditional golfers and creating new opportunities for participation across the community.

The development is being delivered in partnership with the City of Fremantle, LaunchPad Golf and Belgravia Leisure, with construction led by Sarich Building.

Belgravia Leisure Business Operations Manager Douglas Bailey said the project reflects a growing demand for more accessible and social golf experiences.

“We’re proud to support a development that will make golf more accessible, social and engaging for our Fremantle community, while helping more people connect through participation.”

At the sod turning ceremony, LaunchPad Golf Licensee and Managing Director Scott Gunson said the ceremony represented a major milestone for the project.

“What you see on site today has been years in the making. This week marks the point where we move from planning into delivery and start bringing this vision to life.”

The project has been designed to activate the existing public golf course by extending operating hours and welcoming a broader mix of users, including families, social groups, corporate bookings, and visitors to the region.

“I’m looking forward to hitting some golf balls here once it’s built, but more importantly, this project is about delivering real benefits for the Fremantle community,” said Mayor Ben Lawver.

“The City has contributed $3.2 million towards the development and it’s great to see that investment supporting a facility that is safe, accessible and inclusive for everyone.”

In addition to the main venue, the development will deliver new public-facing infrastructure, including a pro shop, upgraded amenities and a café connection to Booyeembara Park, further strengthening its role within the local precinct.

“We’re pleased to be delivering a project of this scale and quality in Fremantle,” said Patrick Chaney for Sarich Building.

Mr. Gunson said the project would play a broader role in the Fremantle precinct.

“This isn’t just about building a venue. It’s about creating a place where people come back regularly. A place that adds energy to the precinct and gives locals something they can genuinely connect with.”

Construction is now underway, with the venue expected to open in May 2027.
