Exciting Changes Underway at Fremantle Public Golf Course
Earlier this year, Fremantle Public Golf Course transitioned management to Belgravia Leisure. The transition, which occurred on June 1st, brings a range of exciting new upgrades and programs to support the local Fremantle community with golf-related activities that promote staying active and connected.
The development, funded by LaunchPad and the City of Fremantle, includes a $19 million transformation project. This project will bring a new look to Fremantle Public Golf Course, including the construction of a clubhouse, retail space, and a food and beverage venue in the southwest corner of the course.
Additionally, through further partnerships with Golf Australia, the PGA of Australia and the Belgravia Foundation, Belgravia Leisure will offer community members introductory programs such as the Get into Golf Program, My Golf and TeeMates Program and seasoned golf programs such as Open Amateur tournaments and Pro-Ams.
But perhaps Belgravia Leisure’s most anticipated update to Fremantle Public Golf Course is the redevelopment of the Driving Range and Clubhouse, and the introduction of LaunchPad Golf – an experience that will be the first of its kind in Australia.
LaunchPad Golf will be:
- A multi-level, 40-suite driving range experience
- Bookable for an allotment of time with unlimited balls
- Complete with ball-tracking technology
- Up and running ready for the community in 2026.
“Belgravia Leisure in partnership with the City of Fremantle, is committed to revitalising the Fremantle Public Golf Course and bringing it into our modern era. The Belgravia Leisure team is driven by the understanding that golf is as much a chance to relax and socialise as it is to exercise,” says Clint Birkholz, Head Professional at Fremantle Public Golf Course.
“We can’t wait to offer the Fremantle community the opportunity to get active, while enjoying new food and drink options and amazing social opportunities, and we hope that being able to gain exposure to golf in a fun environment will bring in a broad range of community members looking for new recreation opportunities in Fremantle”.
The City of Fremantle is contributing $3.2 million in grant funding it received for the redevelopment of the golf course and clubhouse and is looking forward to partnering with Belgravia Leisure and Launchpad Golf to expand the city’s sport and recreation offerings for its community.
“The combination of the entertainment-based golfing experience being delivered by Launchpad Golf and the traditional 9-hole offering being delivered by Belgravia Leisure will make golf accessible and inclusive to a much broader demographic of the Fremantle community and wider metropolitan area,” says City of Fremantle Director of City Business, Matt Hammond.
In the meantime, Fremantle Public Golf Course will continue to offer the community the 10-bay driving range and a putting and chipping green for golfers looking to hone their skills, with opportunities for golfers to further fine tune their technique with a lesson from the golf pros.
“Fremantle Public Golf Course is a shorter course, so it’s really inviting for beginners. It’s all about having a go,” says PGA Pro, Clint Birkholz.
In the last five years, Belgravia Leisure have delivered on upgrades of more than $5 million for their golf course partners with a focus on future proofing community assets by ensuring that each golf course offers activities that cater for all.
